Oral sex can be an exhilarating way to spice up the bedroom (or any room, car, desk or movie theatre you choose to do this in). However, use caution when getting too close and personal during the cold/flu season. That little cold sore or fever blister that paid your lips a visit may all too easily crash a party at your neighbors. Herpes Simplex Virus falls under the ‘we have no cure for this but treatment to manage outbreaks is available’ category of sexually transmitted diseases. The most common symptom (and probably what you are vividly imagining already if you have any prior knowledge of this disease) includes a rash with groups of white, blistery sores. Don’t think you’re all clear if you have no spots; this sneaky little bugger likes to hang out in stealth mood but can still be caught by your private visitors. What makes this even trickier is the fact that herpes actually comes in two forms. HSV-1, or oral herpes, is the cold sore/fever blister type most often found on the lips or inside the mouth. HSV-2 is the genital herpes version—so this is where the vagina, cervix, penis, anus etc get involved. According to some doctors, the virus from one can be transferred to the other. So don’t go sticking your mouth where you honey is—at least until that nasty cold sore is gone. |
