At a recent conference for a line of adult toys and products, I was reminded by the speaker that ‘wet sex is the best sex.’ The statement was meant to reinforce the sale of lubricants to help make sexual intercourse or adult playtime more enjoyable and safe. But truer words were never spoken. If you have already discovered the wonderful world of lubrications and have already chosen your favorite brand or two with great pride (and pleasure) then congratulations and well done! If not, then what are you waiting for?! Unfortunately our culture often depicts a woman’s state of arousal (and therefore her own inherent sexiness or attraction to her partner) to be directly linked with how sopping wet she becomes. Well I am here to tell you that is nonsense! A woman’s body is designed with two sources of lubrication—1) the Bartholin’s glands located inside the vestibule (the actual opening to the vagina) and 2) the vaginal walls themselves which get moist from fluids filtering through the blood vessels surrounding it. Both of these sources react to hormones which can change—esp during menopause. Even if your hormones aren’t an issue, the lubrication is not coming from a bottomless well. So what’s a girl to do? Easy. Go to the nearest drug store or online store (such as condomdepot.com) and buy yourself some lubrication. Better yet, buy yourself a variety of lubricants. There are many options today including ones that literally heat things up for you. Like any other product, some people may be sensitive to certain brands. Keep trying until you find the one(s) that are right for you. *But be careful—if you use condoms be sure to purchase a brand that is water-based. If it is oil-based (so no whip-cream for this one please!) it will break down the latex and make the condom porous—in other words it will have little tiny holes that disease or sperm can slip through. This of course is exactly what you don’t want to happen. Make lubrication a part of the foreplay. Have your partner watch you put it on or have them apply it for you. Don’t forget to use extra if you enjoy anal sex---this will go a long way to help prevent tiny tears in the sensitive tissue of that area. If it’s a party for one—enjoy the freedom of smooth and silky control. |
